Ordinary objects around us, such as cups, glasses, and forks, are reborn in completely different forms through his hands. Simple shadows expand into animals, figures, and narrative scenes, offering viewers a unique visual experience. This work focuses on a 'shift in perspective' rather than technical perfection. It emphasizes creativity and diversity of interpretation, noting that even the same object can hold different meanings depending on how it is viewed.
In particular, this "world of shadows" holds multicultural significance in that it can be understood by anyone without language barriers. This is because people from diverse cultural backgrounds can naturally empathize through the universal element of the shadow. Meanwhile, this work adds further significance amidst cultural exchanges commemorating the 125th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Belgium. Korea (then the Korean Empire) and Belgium have maintained various exchanges since establishing diplomatic relations in 1901.
Furthermore, marking the 125th anniversary of diplomatic relations, mutual understanding is expanding through cultural events such as exhibitions and performances, as well as economic and diplomatic cooperation and various exchange projects.
In addition, hands-on activities linked to educational programs have been prepared, allowing children, teenagers, and families alike to enjoy the experience together. Such participatory exhibitions play a positive role not only in enhancing creativity but also in fostering understanding of different cultures and communication skills.
This work, which offers a fresh interpretation of everyday shadows, demonstrates the values of imagination and empathy required in a multicultural society. In an interview, the artist emphasized the universality of art, stating, "People enjoy similar humor regardless of their country." This message aligns with the core values of international exchange.
